On Thursday, 27th April 2023, the Zambia Association of Sisterhoods (ZAS) officially launched its counter–human trafficking project, Talitha Kum Zambia (TAKUZA), at Mika Hotel in Lusaka—marking a bold and hopeful step in the nationwide fight against human trafficking.
ZAS, which brings together more than 45 congregations of Religious Women, stands as a united community committed to living out their shared mission. Through collaboration and communion, the sisters support one another in discerning and fulfilling God’s plan in service to the church and to those most vulnerable.
The launch event was both colourful and inspiring, drawing 80 distinguished guests from across Zambia’s faith, diplomatic and civil society communities. Among those present were the ZAS Chairperson, who also serves as the Superior General for the Religious Sisters of Charity; representatives from UN agencies, embassies and civil society organizations; the Caritas Director; the Vicar for Religious and Consecrated Life; congregational superiors; Reverend Fathers; Religious men and women and members of the press.
The gathering marked the beginning of a coordinated, faith-driven effort to protect vulnerable individuals, raise awareness and strengthen Zambia’s response to human trafficking.
