Lusaka District -Training For Law Enforcement Officers On Investigations Of Human Trafficking And Smuggling Of Migrant Cases Held From 18th February To 20th February 2025 At Kapingila Guest House, Catholic Secretariat.

The training for law enforcement officers on investigations of Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants was held from February 18th to 20th, 2025, at Kapingila Guest House at the Catholic Secretariat. It was organized by TAKUZA in collaboration with the Anti-Human Trafficking Department (AHTD), the training aimed to strengthen the capacity of officers in identifying, investigating and handling human trafficking cases while ensuring victim protection. The sessions provided an opportunity for officers to refine their skills and develop effective strategies in tackling this crime. The training gathered officers from various sectors, including Zambia Police, Drug Enforcement Commission, Department of Immigration, ULEMU, Child Rescue Foundation, CARITAS Zambia and Religious Men from the catholic church and other key ministries.


Objectives


The primary aim of the training was to enhance the capacity of frontline officers to address human trafficking and smuggling of migrants, improve coordination and collaboration among agencies and share insights, to improve intervention strategies.


CONCLUSION


The training strengthened the capacity of law enforcement officers to identify, investigate and respond to human trafficking cases. Through interactive sessions, case studies and practical exercises, participants gained essential skills and knowledge. Key recommendations, such as increased frontline sensitization, training of public transport provider and advocacy for more resources, highlighting areas for further action. Moving forward, participants committed to continuing these efforts to strengthen Zambia’s response to human trafficking and smuggling.
