KATETE TRAINING

On 14th October, 2022, TAKUZA conducted a training for Community Animators that included Church and Traditional Leaders, the Youth and Government workers. The aim of the training was to empower participants with knowledge of human trafficking so that they are able to identify cases of human trafficking and those of human smuggling and raise awareness on both to communities.

The 36 participants after training recognized that the cases of trafficking are widespread in their area and information is needed to be disseminated so that people, especially in villages, can be awakened to the issue of trafficking. They indicated, for example, that young boys are being exploited in mines within Katete while women are often married off to foreigners from neighbouring towns who sometimes take them to their countries where they are exploited for cheap labour.

They further stated that people do not report cases leading to the rise of such cases within the town because they do not know that the cases are that of trafficking.
