In May, TAKUZA held a community training workshop in Rufunsa and Mpanshya designed to strengthen local understanding of migration trends and the realities of human trafficking in Zambia and how it all coincides with issues of drug abuse. The workshop brought together community members who play an important role in safeguarding vulnerable groups and promoting justice within their communities; Rufunsa Action for Drug and Alcohol Team.
Rufunsa Action for Drug and Alcohol Team (RADAT), is a community-based organization committed to addressing substance abuse. The primary aim of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of this group to recognize and respond to human trafficking and smuggling of migrants, as they carry out their sensitization activities. The workshop also sought to improve coordination among local actors, especially that traditional and church leaders were in attendance, this was to encourage the sharing of insights and enhance intervention strategies, particularly because trafficking and drug abuse continue to pose significant challenges in Rufunsa.
Participants described the workshop as timely and transformative, noting that the knowledge and skills gained will support ongoing efforts to create safer, more informed and more resilient communities.
